Record-Breaking Heat

wp_heatWe’d like to talk about Austin’s highs and lows.  That’s right – we’re talking about June’s historic weather.  With some help from Austin’s KVUE weather website, we were able to see exactly how much this month of June has fluctuated on the record.

Check out some of these stats below.

June 20th, 1925 it was 106 degrees out – the highest in recorded history on that day!

June 20th, 1912 56 degrees – the lowest in recorded history on that day.

Average high of 93 degrees.

Average low of 73 degrees.

June 5th, 2011 was 101 degrees as the high.

June 5th, 1970 was 55 degrees as the low.

All that can be compared to a total average of 81 degrees for this year on that date.

Getting away from summer weather, let’s take a look at the history of January 1st here in Austin.  Additionally, beneath the stats, we have attached an image of the stats that the KVUE site provides when you punch in the date you’re looking for.

January 1st, 2006 was 85 degrees – record high.

January 1st, 1928 was 17 degrees – record low.

Average high of 61 degrees.

Average low of 41 degrees.

Regardless of being in June or January, these are pretty bizarre numbers.  Though you don’t need us to tell you that!  You can probably tell the odd fluctuations just by seeing the opposites of the highs and lows.  What’s our point?  The weather in Austin can be unpredictable.  But, and you can count on this, the weather will always be reaching crazy-high temperatures during these summer months.
