Staying Cool This Summer (Besides Using An AC)

sunWe’re the HVAC, AC, cooling and heating pros here in Austin.  We’re all about making sure you and your family are able to stay cool this spring and summer.  Besides fixing or installing an HVAC system for your home, we can also be helpful to you with some simple tips on keeping a chilled and focused head in Austin’s oncoming heat.  Read on!

Hydrated

Always stay hydrated! That might sound like a no-brainer but it’s important to make sure you and your loved ones are staying cool this summer by making sure everyone is drinking enough water.

Obviously the amount of water you need to be drinking each day varies by person to person. Lucky for us, About.com has a cool hydration calculator. You punch in your weight and a few other important details. Once you’ve answered all the questions, they have a simple to follow answer for just how much water is recommended for you to drink each day.

Attire

When you come indoors from the boiling heat of the Texas sun, make sure you take off your hat and shoes. Those extra pieces on your body are adding to your overall temperature. Wear comfortable shorts!  Ever see people walking around in hot weather wearing jeans and, gasp, a long-sleeve shirt?  Don’t be that person!  Choose comfort and coolness over excessive amounts of garb.  Keep an eye on your family for this tip as well – let them know how silly they’re being for wearing too much in hot weather.  This is especially true indoors!

Running Devices

Run your clothing dryer and dishwasher at night.  Depending on the year, brand and size of your television, your entertainment center may be giving off some heat inside of your home that’s adding to the big picture of you sweating beads.  Turn off the TV and open up a board game instead!

Keep Blinds Closed

Having your blinds open during the day is one of the joys of being in a home.  The natural lighting helps shine into your room and just makes things look amazing.  But, even with that being true most the time, you need to close the blinds when the highest temperature is blaring into your home!  Keeping the blinds closed will help you battle some of that heat.
