Staying Cool This Summer (Besides Using An AC) Part 2

ice_cubesDid you catch our recent blog on how to stay cool in this coming heat?  We hope you did but in case you didn’t you can check it out right here.

We’re back with some more tips that will help you defeat the Austin heat!  We know that sometimes your AC isn’t working as well as it should (and if that’s the case, then get in touch with an Austin HVAC pro ASAP) so we’re here to give you tips that will help you out even if you don’t have an ideal air conditioning scenario.

Cool Food

Consider getting yourself in a fresh and chilled mental state to help beat the heat.  “What does that even mean!?” you ask…  Well, if you bring home a few bags of piping hot fast food on a scorching summer day then you might not be putting yourself in optimal positioning to feel cooler.  Toss away the hot meal plans and instead put together a no-cooking needed meal such as a delicious summer salad.  Maybe plop some strawberries and walnuts in there for something truly seasonal! Who knew staying cool could be so delicious?

Open A Window At Night

You might be surprised that leaving a window cracked during the night is a really smart way to let all that cool air in. Be sure you shut the window when you wake up before all the hot air starts coming in for the day.  You’ll find, if your home permits this situation, that this is one of the simplest things you can do to cool your home off when AC is unavailable.

The Ice Trick

Some people have had success with turning their oscillating fan into a temporary AC!  You can place a milk jug that you filled with tap water and then left overnight in the freezer in front of the fan you have running.  Just be sure you have a cleanup plan by placing towels underneath the ice. This is by no means a permanent solution but if you’re AC needs repair, consider giving this a shot while you wait for your AC work to wrap up.

Cold Shower?

This one falls into the category of “so terribly obvious that a few people let this one slip by.”  By switching your typically hot showers to something much warmer or cooler,  you’ll be feeling much better about stepping back into some of the heat.
